  The causes of dysphasia

Dysphasia is where the speech and language is damaged. This can be through a number of reasons, like:

  • Birth defect,
  • Stroke,
  • Accident (i.e. Road Traffic Accident, cycling, any accidents that inflicts any damage to the head)

With my disability, it was caused by a problem in the formation of the foetus.

Dysphasia is not a disease, it is just a disability.

Dysphasia was given as a name to my type of disability by Afasic, back in 1968, under a lot of disapproval from the doctors and professors of the Medical World as the word 'dysphasia' was associated with someone who had become dysphasic after a stroke or an accident, i.e. was not born with it.

The actual definition of 'dysphasia' is as follows:

"dysphasia dis-fa'zhe, -zhe, n. difficulty in expressing or understanding thought in spoken or written words, caused by brain damage [Pfx. dys-, and Gr. phasis, speech.]"

Blind people have white sticks, deaf people have hearing aids and we have nothing. The blind and the deaf are not considered anymore stupid than the mainstream world, but if we open our mouths we are considered stupid...but we aren't! (or at least any more than the average person in the mainstream world!)

This shows a tumour on the speech area. I have used it to show where the speech area is.
